Dear Families,
Our 2nd grade classes have been studying government, communities, and how to get involved to help our communities. They are working on a Community Service Project and have voted on running a school food drive to help local families. Help Our Class Support Families!
We will be collecting nonperishable food from December 1st-December 11th. Please bring the donated food items to your child’s classroom. The donated food will be distributed to our local families first. If there is any food left over we will donate it to the Sparrow House in Lamar.
We are asking for nonperishable food (Please NO glass, flour, sugar, oil, or expired food). Please consider the following foods:
• Canned vegetables, fruit, beans, tuna, chicken
• Boxed pasta, rice, cereal, oatmeal, crackers
• Peanut butter (plastic jars), soups
• Baby formula, baby food
Each classroom will have a donation box ready for you.
Thank you for helping teach our students the value of kindness and community. Every item makes a difference!

What a great day our 10th graders had at the SE Colorado Youth Entrepreneurship Project (YEP) Career Cab on Wednesday, November 12th. The purpose of the Career Cab is to engage 10th-grade students in exploring career pathways that could lead to internships and future employment.
Each of our students chose one of the six offered career pathways to explore. They were then transported to various locations to explore career and opportunity options.
Agriculture--Rusler Implement, CSU Arkansas Valley Research Center, OC Agriculture Department
Business/Entrepreneurship--Colorado Sublimation Co., Morgan and Son's Glass, Klein Makerspace
Criminal Justice/Public Safety--La Junta Police Department, Otero Co. Judicial Center, County Courthouse, La Junta Fire Dept.
Engineering/Technology/Media Arts--SECOM, Lewis Bolt & Nut Company, Falcon Industries, Ark Valley Pallet Company
Health Sciences--Good News Physical Therapy, OC Health Sciences, Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center
Skilled Trades--OC Vocational (welding & construction trades), OC Construction Site, Valley Plumbing
Wiley had students participate in five of the six options. Thank you to Otero College, all the site locations, the SE Colorado Youth Entrepreneurship Project, and Mrs. McDowell for attending with students. Most of all, thank you to our students who represented our school so well.

Students and parents of 5th graders, please plan to attend this exciting family night. You will not want to miss out on Turkey Bowling! There will also be crafts for families to participate in. We hope to see all 5th grade students and parents on Wednesday, November 19th from 5:30-6:30 in the cafeteria.
